Sunil Chhetri visited the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Sunday and took part in a “sword competition” with cricketers from the northeast and Team Plate. The captain of the Indian team also shared experiences and learned from the journey to conquer football with the players. On social media, BCCI posted a video of Chhetri participating in an exercise. BCCI tweeted, “NCA’s Neighbor, Captain and Legend of Indian Football, @chetrisunil11 stopped by on Sunday night. He had a great game and shared some lessons from his practice. his own incredible performance in Football with the boys from the North East and the Plate Teams”.

The video has been well received by fans, with many praising Chhetri for his fitness.

One user wrote, “Our legendary captain, pride in Indian football with cricketers, an amazing sight to watch”.

“Awesome! Only suitable soccer players can play soccer and cricket both. However, all cricketers cannot play football unless fit,” another tweeted.

“He could be a good cricketer,” suggested one user.

Chhetri and former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli are known to be good friends. The duo also took part in an Instagram Live interaction in 2021 where they talked about their childhood in New Delhi.


The 37-year-old has represented India with a record 125 matches. The glamorous striker is India’s top goalscorer with 80 goals and is also third in the list of active goalscorers of international football.

He’s just behind Cristiano Ronaldo (115) and Lionel Messi (81).
