Manchester United have appointed the architects of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to plan the redevelopment of their aging Old Trafford ground. Populous architects and management consultants Legends International will jointly plan an update to Britain’s largest club stadium with the aim of increasing capacity even further. Both companies have been working to develop Tottenham’s 63,000-seat stadium, which will open in 2019.

“Work will begin immediately to develop options for Old Trafford and study their feasibility, with the aim of significantly enhancing the fan experience,” said a statement on United’s website. said on Thursday.

“The fans will be at the heart of this process, starting with a meeting between the consultants and the Manchester United fan advisory board later this month.”

Last month, it was reported that the Premier League club were considering several options to redevelop their 112-year-old home. One possibility is to build a brand new stadium, although that is still the least likely option.

The stadium’s three sides have been enlarged over the past three decades but the south stand remains a problem due to its proximity to a railway line, although it is believed that new technology can solve that problem.

There is also a recognition that modernization is needed on all parts of the stadium, which currently holds 74,000 people.

United are also looking to improve their training facilities, with architecture and design firm KSS appointed to plan an “extended, state-of-the-art facility”.
