Ivies Fencing Well at NCAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The NCAA has provided a free live stream for the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships, hosted by Harvard at Gordon Indoor Track March 25-28.

— Ivy student athletes are faring very well in the Women’s competition. Harvard’s Caroline Vloka has qualified for the Women’s Sabre Final Four. The No. 3 seed with face off against Ohio State’s Margarita Tschomakova (#2) in the semi-finals. Vloka finished with 19 victories (identical to Tschomakova) but is seeded third due to a touch differential of -2. Tschomakova had 108 touches scored and 64 touches received (+44) to Vloka’s 103 scored and 61 received (+42).

— Columbia’s Nicole Ross and Harvard’s Noam Mills are currently in first place in the Foil and Epee competitions, respectively. Ross has 18 victories in the competition and has an astronomical +56 touch differential thus far. Mills is also firmly in the top position. She has 18 wins as well, and has a +47 differential.

— Harvard (4th), Princeton (5th) and Columbia (6th) are all within striking distance of the team title. St. John’s currently leads the way with 84 points, but the Crimson (71 pts), Tigers (68) and Lions (61) are all mathematically alive.
