Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann said on Friday he was threatened with death online after his team’s surprise Champions League defeat to Villarreal this week. “I know I’ll always get criticism from all sides, that’s normal and I can deal with it. But with 450 death threats on Instagram, it’s not so easy.” , Nagelsmann said ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga trip to Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday. “If people want to kill me that’s one thing, but they also attack my mother, who doesn’t even care about football,” he added.

“I don’t get it. As soon as they turn off the TV, people forget all decency. And they think they’re the ones in power, which is crazy.”

When asked if he had considered suing, Nagelsmann said there were simply too many threats to make it happen.

“I’ll never finish it. I get them after every game, no matter if we win or lose,” he said.

“There were more death threats when we played with a back three than when we played with a back four, and obviously a few more threats whenever we lost.”

Nagelsmann is the second Bayern employee to receive death threats this week.

The wife and son of sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also revealed on Wednesday and Thursday that they had been threatened after the Villarreal loss, posting screenshots of personal messages sent on Instagram.

On Friday, Nagelsmann said he did not expect Bayern to step up security measures.

“We are still private individuals. I don’t want to offend anyone, and no one has shown up at my house,” he said.
